Embracing AI: A Commitment to Innovation and Media Literacy

As artificial intelligence rapidly transforms industries, the Ventura County Office of Education is responsibly helping local schools embrace this technology. VCOE’s EdTech team equips educators with tools, training, and support to integrate AI into classrooms, enhancing learning and fostering critical thinking. Central to VCOE's approach is integrating AI within a broader media literacy framework. In today’s digital world, students must understand both how to use AI and how to critically evaluate the media and data driving these tools. VCOE has provided extensive professional development in AI and Media Literacy, enabling teachers to help students assess information, question sources, and understand how algorithms shape their digital experiences. This media literacy component is essential for guiding students to use AI ethically and responsibly. While AI offers numerous educational benefits, such as automating administrative tasks and personalizing learning, VCOE also emphasizes the ethical implications.
